I never really got into Robotech, ended up watching Macross or Gundam. I think Robotech was all about the robots, like Zoids(the comic). Looking at Youtube, I think Robotech is the name for the robots part of Macross.

Robotech was the name given to the technology discovered with the fortress in Macross. I imagine an exlusively Robotech release would be more highly valued than a Macross. Robotech glomed onto Macross to boost sales, which prevented from developing on it's own. Gundam began with own designs and story, I'm guessing much more successful than Robotech or Macross. If Robotech had only glomed onto Maggotraveller(Megatraveller), it'd be better. Battletech began as America's own Robotech, with it's own story. Battletech started as a board game, and migrated to arcades, military interest which led to 'Robot Jox' movie, and home computers. Given those ingredients, it's possible to make much better science fiction than s'Raw Rats(Star Wars).
